UCLA LISAAA Class Notes

I graduated from GSEIS in 2002.  After graduation, I worked for about a year as a Children’s Librarian at the Pico Rivera Library for the County of Los Angeles Public Library, and almost two years as a reference/YA librarian at the Norwalk Regional Public Library (still for the County of LA system).  About two years ago I made a switch to the LAPL system, and having been working the last two years as a Young Adult Librarian at Teenscape in Central Library.  I am about to transfer to another department in Central Library called Infonow.

I am working full time as Fine Arts Librarian at Beverly Hills Public Library.  I continued my graduate work at UCLA after completing my library degree, and earned a second Masters degree in Museum Studies in the Art History Department.  A travel award from Arlis Southern California paved the way for me to attend my first national Arlis conference in Atlanta this Spring where I had a lovely visit with Brooke Henderson, class of 1998, also an Art Librarian at Wellesley College.

After working as a reference librarian at the East Los Angeles Public Library, I worked at the Berkeley Public Library as a teen services librarian.  I just moved back to Chiapas to continue working with libraries and archives here.

Just before graduating in 2003 with my MLIS (Archival Studies emphasis), I started a year-long stint as Curator of the USC-Warner Bros. Archives (a paper and photographic repository).  After leaving USC, I movied into the special libraries /private sector and was employed as a reference librarian in the downtown Los Angeles office of Deloitte and Touche.

After almost two years at Deloitte, I followed my heart back to the arts and humanities realm and have now been working in the research library at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art for close to two years.  In my position as the Serials and Exchange Program Librarian, I handle approximately 400 print and online database subscriptions, and also oversee our exhibition catalogues/museum publications exchange for the museum.  I am lucky enough to communicate with museums and cultural institutions around the world, see beautiful works of art everyday, and work with a great group of people.
