2006 - Norma Vega

July 29, 2007

My name is Norma Vega.  While attending UCLA I specialized in archives and received my MLIS degree in 2006 .  My e-mail address is nmargret00@earthlink.net.  Although I had come to detest my job as a substitute teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District over the past 15 years, I found I was reluctant to leave the position.  I’d workedas a substitute for so long that I was fearful of the change. I didn’t put out any job applications until nearly 8 months after graduation.  I’m happy to say I got the very first job I applied for.  I am now happily employed as the archivist for the Science and Technology Council at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (for which I interned during the summer of 2005).  A big thanks to Keri Botello for the Internship Fair!!  Ironically, one of my job duties is the hiring of interns for the processing of paper collections from the Science and Technology Council.  I love my new gig!!!

2005 - Julie Huffman

My name is Julie Huffman, and I graduated with my MLIS in June of 2005. During my school years, I was the co-president of the student chapter of the Special Libraries Association. However, upon graduation, I became a different kind of "special" librarian–a public librarian! I’d worked as an MC for the Los Angeles Public Library for four years–before and during school, and LAPL paid for my tuition. Upon graduation, I was hired by them as a full-time young adult librarian for the Studio City branch. A year later, I transferred to become the Studio City library’s full-time adult librarian (my current post). I love my job: I teach computer classes (mostly, to seniors), I have a monthly book club, and I get to do lots of collection development. It’s a good gig. Best wishes, Julie
