1999 - Jennifer Zambrano

May 9, 2007

{Received May 3, 2007}

- I was a wet behind the ears children’s librarian at LA
Public Library in Echo Park. One of my first programs
attracted 210 kids and the fire marshall.

- Later, to my surprise, I scored high on the senior exam. I
was placed as a Senior of the Malabar branch of LAPL,
located in one of the worst gang-ridden neighborhoods of Los
Angeles. My programs included Cesar Chavez’ grandson, a
successful graduate and inspirational speaker from Father
Greg Boyle’s HomeBoy Bakery, the Los Angeles Opera, and no
fire marshall.

- Two LAPD library lockdowns and a few driveby shootings
later, I made the very tough decision to step down and go
half time. Seriously though, my son was diagnosed with
autism, and with a pending divorce, I made an equally
rewarding decision to spend more time with him, and still
give quality time to the public library as a Bilingual
Children’s Librarian for the Arroyo Seco Regional branch of
LAPL.

thats all.. hope you enjoyed reading :) Jeni
