2004 - Candace Lewis

August 9, 2007

Candace Lewis, class of 2004 and 03-04 SLA student chapter president, here.

"Here" is in fact Hollywood, CA: Im the new "Research and Account Coordinator" for UCLA Film & Television Archive’s Commercial Services Division.  I’m applying my reference skills to field requests from documentarians seeking historical footage for their film & television projects.  It’s a lovely blend for my customer-service orientation, my passion for moving images as social documentation, and my MLIS skill set.

Beside continuing my tenure as a UCLA employee (I began in student services in February 2005), my new position allows me to bicycle to work in 15 minutes–a highly valued benefit for my growing eco and health conciousness.

So I still reside at my Lanewood Avenue (90028) residence in Hollywood (on file in student-records system AIS), but my new work number is 323-466-8559x18.

Cheerio(s), Candace

2004 - Teresa Bocanegra

October 20, 2006

Hi, I’m Teresa Bocanegra Class of June 2004.   Currently, I’m working in Selection Services at the Dallas Public Library (DPL).  Two weeks after graduating from UCLA, I started a position as a Youth Librarian at a DPL branch , then in February 2006, moved to Selection Services at Central where I am the Coordinator for all ordering as well as a “Centralized” Collection Development Librarian for youth fiction and media.  DPL has 23 branches (and a few preparing for openings) plus a Central Library with 8 floors.  At the moment, we are in the process of reviewing ILS vendors to replace DRA Classic.  As for the following story below, I don’t know where this might fit in the blog, but it’s a fun story that happened earlier in the month:

I went to Rick Springfield’s show in Tulsa OK last Wednesday 10/4 then to Stafford TX on Friday 10/6. I have this shirt I’ve started to wear to the shows that says "Librarian Loves Rick"

On Friday, early into the show Rick saw me and pointed & smiled while he sang, then a couple of songs later he actually STOPPED his singing and pointed at me asking "Are you a librarian?" (I nodded yes). Then he said "You know that’s kinda hot. Librarians are really hot." (During the show, he pointed at me a few times and sang to me - I was on the third row).

So, it’s official - we are hot ok - Rick says so - it must be true right? tehe.
